Abstract

This study seeks to demonstrate at a modern phonetic study of the rules of emphasized sound in the Holy Qur’an; as we live today in a time in which we are not satisfied with the sayings of the ancient linguists, but we need a new form within the framework of scientific research. The researchers try to present new rules and opinions for the rules of emphasized sound in the Holy Qur’an, without leaving out what the old readers and linguists did, but rather coming up with modern rules that fit the scientific reality now. Through the Qur’anic examples, the researcher will describe each sound separately by defining its distinguishing features, with proposing formal phonetic rules (the formal character) and their formulation, as well as their interpretation (the non-formal character). This article aims to analyze the amplified sounds found in Quranic verses, as well as analyze the distinctive features that affect the emphasized sounds in them. This article attempts to answer the two questions, firstly is what are the emphasized sounds found in Quranic verses? and secondly is how do the distinctive features play their role in influencing the emphasized sounds in the Quranic verses. The article relied on the analytical method in describing the rules of velarization. The study concluded that the [+ velarized] feature plays an important role in replacing certain sounds with emphasized sounds, and it is not the [+ emphasis] feature that alters those sounds, and the [±high] feature plays a role in replacing the sin (س) to sad (ص) other than [+velarized, + emphasis] features in some verbs بَسَطَ, and the [+ coronal] feature plays a certain role in transforming some sounds into emphasized sounds; because those sounds come from articulation closes to each other.
